The Best One Day Greek Island Hopping Tour From Athens
Let’s start with some basic information. For everybody that has not yet been to Greece, the first thing you need to know is that Greece is amazing. It is heaven on earth. Or, in other words, Greece is paradise! I am sure that the people who have visited this country already definitely agree with me! Now that we got the most important thing straight, let’s continue.
If you go to Greece and you want to combine culture with history, but you also want to chill at the beach, then Athens is the place to be. And, if you get tired of strolling around in the city of Athens and want to relax a bit and enjoy the MOST AMAZING beaches on earth, you can go a day cruise.
This cruise will show you the hidden beauties of the Aegean Sea – the Saronic Islands. The cruise includes lunch and pick up and drop off from your hotel and you will sail to Hydra, Poros and Aegina. These islands escape the big touristic crowds because they’re small and are less suitable for a ‘party’ vacation. Because of this reason, these islands reflect the natural beauty of the Greek islands… but, where you can enjoy yourself and relax in peace.
This island is simply magical. Ever been to a place where vehicles are not allowed? Me neither… until I visited Hydra, that is. Because of this rule, the locals have created a natural and idealistic land in the middle of the sea not too far away from Athens and Peloponnesus, where you still get the feeling of being far away from everything. For this reason, Hydra attracts a heap of different types of people. When arriving at the port you will find yachts and people enjoying their champagne and caviar, which give the whole place a Saint Tropez kind of vibe, while on other days the only people you will see there are local men enjoying ouzo and the view. Hydra combines a luxury vacation style with authentic simplicity but (most importantly) the real Greek atmosphere. Only within a couple of hours from the big city of Athens, you can enjoy the beauties of this island, while knowing it’s super easy to come back.
Poros is Greece’s most well-kept secret and totally worth visiting. Actually, visiting this island is like visiting two islands since it consists of two parts that are now connected with a bridge. One side of the island is called Spairia and the one part is called Kavalia. Although this island is small, its history, beaches and fantastic views make up for that! When arriving in Poros, go straight to Kanali beach – aka. the most beautiful beach of the island (trust me). Besides this, there is a cove that is called Love Bay (how awesome is that BTW) where you can actually swim under the lush pine trees. Can you honestly think of one reason not to visit this place? I certainly can’t!
Last but not least, Aegina – probably my favourite island of them all! Even just Googling this place will make you want to book a direct flight… but, since there is no airport there. I recommend you take this cruise and sail over the Aegean to Aegina! This small Greek paradise combines beauty, beaches, good food, nightlife and history. Upon arrival, you will meet a lot of locals and Greek people from Athens who are enjoying their weekend getaway breaks. Blend in with them and get to know the hotspots of this place. Visit the temple of Aiphaia, go to Marathon beach for quiet and peaceful relaxation and, in the evening, stroll around in the cute streets of the island. If you ever make it back to Aegina, combine your trip with the island Agistri that is located nearby. It’s a super nice place for a daytrip.
Besides the overall beauty of these islands, this amazing boat trip will provide the best views over the Aegean Sea and show you a different side of Greece. You will fall in love (again) with this country located in the most convenient and breath-taking spot of Europe. And, let’s not to forget, your Instagram feed will look awesome after this vacation. Trust me, the photo spots are everything!
There is a bunch of information available about this day cruise that leaves from the port of Faliro in Athens and costs only €99. If you want to relax a bit more and do things on your own tempo you can (of course) visit these places separately and spend a few more days to get the most out of your vacation. Whatever you decide to do, you will have an amazing holiday in which you can explore these Greek pears of islands! Because as I said earlier, Greece is paradise!
